The official opening of our new long-term care facility took place in November of 2004. This modern facility has been built with the latest concepts and technology available to permit the provision of the best care possible to our long-term care residents.

History of UMH

Our history goes back to 1953 when a committee was formed from representatives of United Mennonite congregations in the Niagara Region, as well as from Waterloo and Toronto to address the increasing awareness of the need for a housing program for the elderly among the constituent congregations. Under the leadership of the Ontario Women in Mission, the committee registered the United Mennonite Home for the Aged under the Charitable Homes Act.

In August 21, 1955, the first United Mennonite Home for the Aged was dedicated. Today the record speaks for itself! United Mennonite Home (now simply called The Home) has provided quality living accommodations and compassionate care to seniors for over 60 years. In that time, UMH has been home to numerous residents, and touched the lives of countless others - friends and family members who know and appreciate the valuable role UMH plays in their community.

Our Mission

United Mennonite Home is a Christian not-for-profit, charitable organization. The mission of the Home is to provide professional care with compassion following the fundamental principle that a long-term care home is primarily the home of its residents and is to be operated so that it is a place where they may live with dignity and respect, in security and comfort and have their physical, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural needs adequately met. The objective is realized by treating its residents with dignity and respect, thereby fulfilling the mandate to do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
